Association Publishing magazine - the magazine of the Society of National Association Publications (SNAP) - has released their latest survey data on the state of association magazines. One of the key findings was that "profitable publications are more likely to outsource ad sales."
Overall the study found that associations are starting to make money with their magazines. The study looked at the characteristics of profitable association publications and found that more associations making money use outside rep firms! Here are some of the advantages:
- No overhead or direct sales costs
- No additional company benefits costs
- Trained, knowledgeable and experienced sales force
- Motivated sales force who depend solely on their ability to earn commissions
- Knowledge of markets and territories gained through years of experience
- Established relationships with companies and advertising agencies
- Projectable costs based on actual sales
